May+Artist+of+the+Month%3A+Charlize+Chiovitti

Becton Regional’s May Artist of the Month has been chosen as freshman Charlize Chiovitti!

To start, the requirements to become Artist of the Month are, as Mrs. Lennon verifies, are “The Artist of the Month is a student in a Becton art class that goes above and beyond in their work. They show excellence in creativity, technique and effort,” Mrs. Lennon further explains, “Charlize has been making exceptional work all year in Digital Art. Her artwork shows her individual style. Recently, she and her group created a Claymation short film called ‘Baking a Cake.’ It was very well done, and her efforts on this project, as well as her previous work all year, is why I chose her for May AOTM.”

Mrs. Lennon credits her favorite works of Chiovitti as her pixel art animated GIF, ‘Baking a Cake’ and her Pop Art portrait that was displayed at Youth Art Month at Maywood Avenue School.

Chiovitti is a student with drive, dedication, and a serious work ethic. “I would describe myself as very warm-hearted, friendly, and eager to learn new things. I enjoy different forms of art mediums like painting and digital art,” she further explains.

Attributes of the Artist of the Month include exemplifying creativity and innovative pieces of work with thought behind them. Chiovitti says, “The projects presented in the display were very early projects that I worked on in the beginning of the school year with passion. Some projects took almost a week to finalize, but others took a day or two if they were topics I was already familiar with. I believe I was selected because of my dedication and my love of the class, and not just my projects.”

On behalf of Mrs. Rachel Lennon, Chiovitti’s art teacher, Chiovitti shares kind words, “The teacher that helped me the most this year was Mrs. Lennon. Her projects and lessons were so enjoyable every time. I loved learning new skills and practicing old ones. I hope I can have her as a teacher again because she boosted my creativity so much!”

A big factor in becoming Artist of the Month is having passion for your craft– it is very important to be passionate about your art. Chiovitti makes this connection in her own work, “What makes art so special to me is that you can personalize it any way that you want. Art can also tell so many different stories, sometimes stories that you don’t realize until after you complete it.”

Chiovitti shares, “Being Artist of the Month means I accomplished one of my goals for high school, which was to be recognized for my art.”

In regards to the future, Chiovitti is leaving her options open, “I would definitely enjoy being a wedding photographer or becoming a graphic designer for products or logos,” she explains, but concludes that art is always in the books.

“My advice for aspiring artists is to shoot for every opportunity you get,” Chiovitti leaves behind, “Enter that contest, email that portfolio, ask about that website! A few no’s won’t mean anything when you get that yes. The sky’s the limit for an artist.”

Superb advice, and congratulations to Charlize Chiovitti for being Becton’s May Artist of the Month! Well deserved!
