The Becton/Wood-Ridge Wrestling team has shown encouraging signs early in the season, combining competitive dual meets with strong results in tournament play. Although the team currently holds a 1–2 record in dual meets after dropping two closely contested matches, their success in weekend tournaments has demonstrated depth across the roster.
On December 20, Becton/Wood-Ridge placed third at the Clifton Tournament, followed by second-place finishes at both the Elmwood Park and Belleville Tournaments. The consistent podium appearances reflect the team’s ability to compete at a high level against strong opposition.
Several wrestlers have emerged as key contributors. On the boys’ side, Everett Bell, Zechariah Castagna, and Koa McLaurin have delivered top performances, providing stability and leadership throughout the lineup. Their efforts have helped the team remain competitive in both individual and team scoring.
The girls’ team has also enjoyed a successful start, earning multiple medals at tournaments in Garfield, Fair Lawn, and Elizabeth. Miah Hodge and Victoria Francois have led the way, while Marielle Rodriguez has impressed with breakout performances that have added valuable points to the team’s overall results.
With a busy January schedule approaching, both the boys’ and girls’ teams are poised to build on their early momentum. Based on the strong tournament finishes and individual performances so far, Becton/Wood-Ridge appears ready for an exciting stretch as the season continues.
