As temperatures dropped in December, Becton’s winter sports teams began their seasons with excitement and determination. From the pool to the mat and court, Wildcats athletes demonstrated commitment and school pride.
The swim team kicked off its season the week before Thanksgiving with a growing roster of new athletes. Although the Wildcats fell short in their first meet against New Milford, the team showed strong potential as they prepared for additional meets before winter break, including a home meet and Senior Night against Leonia.
Girls Varsity Basketball opened its season on December 15 against Newark Global Studies. With only one returning starter, Shania Healy, the roster featured several first-time varsity players eager to gain experience. First-year head coach Mr. Hoagland expressed excitement about guiding the team and helping players reach their goals.
The Becton/Wood-Ridge wrestling program entered the season with more than 40 athletes, including a record-setting 10 girls. Senior leaders Everett Bell, Zechariah Castagna, Justin Reilley, and Luca Costa helped anchor the team as they aimed for a successful season and postseason competition.
Winter Track & Field also began its season with high hopes, as returning athletes and new members prepared to chase personal records and medals throughout the winter months.
