Becton Regional High School is currently participating in New Jersey’s Voter Registration Month by hosting a voter registration drive aimed at encouraging students and staff to get involved in the democratic process.
Taking place throughout this week in the auditorium lobby during lunch periods, the drive is providing an easy and accessible way for eligible participants to register to vote. The process takes less than five minutes, with tables set up to guide students and staff through each step.
The initiative is open to all Becton students aged 17 or older, as well as faculty and staff who are not yet registered. Participants must be U.S. citizens and need access to a phone or laptop, along with either a driver’s license or Social Security number to complete the registration.
The project is being organized with the help of students from AP U.S. Government, APUSH II, and Debate classes, who are playing an active role in planning and running the event. From creating informational posters to assisting peers during registration, students are helping promote civic responsibility within the school.
Several students are contributing their time and effort to support the drive, including Dawoe Dolma, Vincent Cicarelli, Emmitt Janosz, Medhasree Suram, Kamila Pachuki, Nihar Patel, Sophia Finan, Gabi Jaskot, Hajoo Oh, Adam Almshref, Lorenna Buccieri, Fiona Jiang, and Tausifa Islam.
In addition to organizing the event, students have designed posters to spread awareness throughout the school. These visuals help inform students about the importance of registering to vote and encourage participation.
The voter registration drive not only makes the process more convenient, but also highlights the importance of civic engagement at a young age. By providing students with the opportunity to register before graduation, Becton is helping prepare them to take part in future elections and have their voices heard.
Overall, the event is a meaningful way to connect classroom learning with real-world action, reinforcing the importance of participation in the democratic process.
