Over spring break, members of Becton’s Women in STEM club participated in the Architecture Tower Challenge hosted by the American Institute of Architects New Jersey, competing against students from across the state in a hands-on design competition.
The challenge, part of New Jersey Architecture Week, asked students to design and construct towers that demonstrated both creativity and structural strength. Teams were evaluated on multiple criteria, including innovation, efficiency, and overall design.
Becton’s team stood out among the competition, earning the award for Most Innovative Design and receiving an Honorable Mention for Most Efficient Tower. These recognitions highlight the group’s ability to think creatively while also applying practical engineering principles.
The competition gave students the opportunity to explore real-world applications of architecture and design, working collaboratively to bring their ideas to life. It also allowed them to engage with professionals in the field and gain insight into careers in architecture and STEM-related industries.
Events like the Architecture Tower Challenge not only encourage creativity and problem-solving, but also empower students—especially young women—to pursue interests in fields where they are often underrepresented.
Becton’s success in the competition reflects the strength of its STEM programs and the dedication of students who continue to challenge themselves beyond the classroom!
