Mr. Vincent Sommese is the newest member of the Becton Wildcat family! Although he is a new face at Becton Regional, he is definitely a seasoned and experienced teacher. With 16 years of experience under his belt, Sommese is overjoyed to embark on his 17th year of teaching.

Sommese decided he wanted to educate and shape young minds his freshman year of high school. He revealed that he was inspired by his own former English teacher who made class very enjoyable. According to one of his students – Kailey Mount, he is following suit and keeps his classes compelling. Mount announced, “We are never bored! We’re constantly changing topics which keeps the lessons interesting!”

A fellow teacher of the English Department who works closely wth Sommese, Daniella Polmann, described Sommese as helpful, positive, and dedicated. She remarked, “He fits right in. His teaching experience is very helpful to newer teachers like myself. He is social and good at his craft which makes it easy to ask him for advice on teaching and outer life.”

It is obvious that most would describe Sommese as an approachable and kind teacher, yet his impression of Becton is just as wonderful. He believes Becton has a very warm and welcoming family dynamic.

Before entering the ever so wonderful worlds of language arts and education, Sommese was ironically more engaged in math and science. Moreover, besides being a special education certified English teacher, Sommese exposed that he would be interested in joining the coaching staff for cross country and spring track. He used to coach at a previous school he worked at, and would even be open to volunteering! His passion for the sports is evident as Sommese professed his love of running. Additionally, Sommese declared that he spends his free time watching Anime and spending time with his three sons.

The College of New Jersey alumni concludes by stating, “There is always more to learn about the teaching profession, so I plan to use my prior experience as I start at Becton and adjust to meet the needs and expectations of the students here.”

Ultimately, Sommese is off to a great start at Becton Regional High School!

Julie Estrada, Staff Writer
The Becton Cat’s Eye View welcomes its newest writer, Julie Estrada! Currently a junior at Becton Regional High School, Julie is thrilled to become a more active member of our school community, and eager to bring her unique perspective into the heart of the Cat’s Eye View. Estrada is a very devoted individual; she participated in Jiu-Jitsu for 8 years before joining Becton’s wrestling team during her freshman and sophomore years. She was inspired to join the team by a state-champion wrestler at Becton who convinced her to pursue wrestling in high school. Unfortunately, an injury prevented her from continuing wrestling; however, she has taken the opportunity to shift her dedication to new activities. She plans on joining numerous clubs, including the Student Council and Drama Club, to see where else her talents can take her. Estrada is especially excited about writing for the school newspaper because of her interest in writing and the arts. She wishes to attend Montclair State University to study English and Drama to become a teacher one day. Beyond her academic and extracurricular commitments, Julie's interests include cooking and painting-- showcasing her creative spirit. She also hopes to write and illustrate a children's book one day! When asked about her love for writing, Estrada thoughtfully shared, “Things are not always what they seem, and sometimes you have to dig deeper to find out what is going on around you.”
