Every week during the school year, North Jersey school districts nominate outstanding students for recognition on The Record and NorthJersey.com.

The poll opens Mondays at 5 a.m. and closes Thursdays at 5 p.m. On Fridays around noon, North Jersey announces the top two vote-getters as students of the week, featuring their stories online and in print in The Record on Sundays and our weekly newspapers.

Out of nine nominations, the top two winners for the student of the week poll were Skyla Tallakson and Emma Aumack.

Tallakson took the lead with a total of 18,272 votes.

Skyla is a student-athlete on Becton’s varsity winter and spring track teams, and serves as a captain of the tennis team. Other than being reporter of the National Honor Society, she is a part of the Spanish Honor Society and Math Honors Society too. She also takes part in many of Becton’s community service clubs and is a devoted member of student council. Additionally, she is the president of the senior class. She plans to attend a well rounded university after taking a gap year for religious mission.

Aumack followed right behind, taking the second position with 13,490 votes.

Emma is a student-athlete who serves as the captain of the new Becton girls’ varsity swim team. Along with being the vice president of the senior class, she is also the secretary of the National Honor Society and a general member of the Spanish National Honor Society. Emma is also a member of the Girls Helping Girls club, as well as the head of fundraising in the school’s environmental club. She takes part in several community service activities and will be one of 10 representing Becton in February’s CANstruction competition at American Dream. She plans to attend a 3+3 program to receive a doctorate in physical therapy following graduation.

Congratulations to the both of them!
