Steven Longo is kicking off the new school year as Becton’s September Student of the Month! “I feel very honored and excited about being Student of the Month, as it showed me one of the many great results of hard work and determination,” Longo shares earnestly.
Balancing a multitude of AP classes that consist of AP CSA, AP Lit, AP Calc AB, AP Chem and AP Stats, Longo has a packed schedule, but remains open to taking on new challenges. Alongside his classes, he participates in the Multicultural Club, the Varsity Soccer and Track teams, and is a diligent member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta and the National English Honor Society. While this seems hefty, Longo keeps his free time to himself with his “skills of effective time management and efficiency in my work.” Due to this utilization, Longo enjoys spending any free time catching up with his friends and playing soccer.
Adept at balancing school and spare time, history teacher Mr. Bill Carr recognizes this of Longo, “I had Steven in class for three years and not a single late or missing assignment!” Mr. Carr speaks highly of Longo’s resilience, “His ability to deal with setbacks is a great indication of how he has grown. I wish I had 10% of his confidence!” He also gives praise to Longo regarding his earnings of two Five’s on two AP exams as “pretty astonishing.”
Longo’s classmate, and best friend Akash Sathish, mirrors Mr. Carr’s remarks of positivity and uplift. “I’ve had the privilege of watching Steven grow both as a student and as a person. Over the years, I’ve seen him mature, particularly when he entered high school, where he took on greater responsibilities and honed his work ethic. He’s become more organized and driven, setting higher standards for himself academically and athletically,” Sathish delves, expressing fondness and respect for his friend.
Longo plans to attend a 4-year university following high school in hopes to further his career of soccer and track. No specific college has been chosen, but we know that any would be lucky to have his attendance!
“For any students that want to be student of the month, put yourself out there and don’t let any setbacks prevent you from continuing to reach your goals, as that is a part of the journey to success,” Longo advises thoughtfully, continuing to express that being involved within school activities is incredibly important to the title of Student of the Month. We should take a page from Longo– six extracurriculars outside of his rigorous AP schedule is no small feat!
Congratulations to Steven Longo for earning Becton’s September Student of the Month!
