Becton Regional High School has recognized Meriam Hashimi as the January Student of the Month, honoring the senior for her academic achievements, leadership roles, and dedication to both her school and the wider community.
Throughout her four years at Becton, Hashimi has challenged herself academically by maintaining an extensive and rigorous course load. Her studies include AP World History, AP U.S. History, AP English Language and Composition, AP Chemistry, AP Physics, AP Precalculus, AP Calculus, AP Computer Science A, AP English Literature and Composition, and AP Biology. Her commitment to academic excellence reflects a strong work ethic and a consistent drive to push beyond expectations.
In addition to her success in the classroom, Hashimi is deeply involved in extracurricular activities. She serves as President of the English Honor Society, Vice President of the Environmental Club, and Treasurer of the National Honor Society, while also acting as a Peer Leadership Club Mentor. She is an active member of Key Club, Women in STEM, Math League, Girls Helping Girls Club, and Images Magazine, demonstrating her wide range of interests and dedication to leadership. Outside of school, Hashimi works part-time as a cashier at Popeyes and regularly volunteers as a Teacher’s Assistant at her local mosque, further highlighting her commitment to service.
Teachers praise Hashimi for both her academic performance and character. Mr. D’Alia, her AP Biology and Anatomy teacher, describes her as “well spoken and outgoing with excellent interpersonal communication skills,” adding that she is “very honest, hard working, and never complains,” especially when facing setbacks. He notes her ability to stay focused and prepared for what comes next.
Mrs. Santacroce, Hashimi’s former biology teacher and Environmental Club advisor, reflects on her growth since freshman year, noting that Hashimi has developed significantly in confidence and leadership. She describes Hashimi as a student who has grown into “a confident, purposeful leader who is comfortable advocating for others,” particularly through her leadership roles in the Environmental Club.
Looking ahead, Hashimi plans to major in Biology in college with the goal of becoming a Physician Assistant through a 3+3 program. She explains that her interest in health care developed as she researched different career paths and discovered the flexibility and impact of the profession, which helped clarify her future goals.
Meriam Hashimi’s recognition as January Student of the Month celebrates not only her academic success, but also her leadership, resilience, and dedication to helping others. As she continues her senior year at Becton, she remains a strong example of the values and commitment that define the Wildcat community.
