“Soccer was the most challenging because it was my first year going back after three years,” said Hamza.

Becton senior athletes Hamza Chah and Jaylen Nuila are being recognized for playing varsity sports throughout their entire senior year.

Hamza Chah, a soccer, wrestling, and track athlete, mentioned how he enjoys preparing and competing during all three seasons.

“I’m motivated by my coach, staff, and teammates, and I have competitive friends who always wanna see the best out of me,” he said.

Being Hamza’s second consecutive year playing all three varsity sports, he has reflected on his biggest challenge, which is trying to maintain skills at each of them.

“Soccer was the most challenging because it was my first year going back after three years. It felt like I had to relearn all the moves,” he shared.

The aspect that affects Hamza the most is the never-ending physical beating on his body. He noted how one needs to be in good condition and go to every practice.

Competition is good to better oneself because it will have you striving to get better every day whether it be for a sport or in the real world.

Out of all the sports that Hamza plays, he mentioned that wrestling is his favorite. “It pushes me to the max and helps me mature better as a man,” he said.

Maintaining good time management skills is important for a student-athlete and quitting was never an option for the Becton senior. “In order to balance school and sports, I try finishing my work at school and try not to procrastinate on big assignments,” he said. He continued to add that he always wanted to play for himself and see if he could last the season but that the ending of the season is the biggest relief for him.

“I’m going to miss competing at a good level of intensity with other good athletes across the state,” he said.

Outside the realm of athletics, Hamza participates in the Chick-fil-A Leadership Program and Peer Leadership Program at Becton. He works at a restaurant in New York City on the weekends from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and sometimes during the week from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m.
