The New Jersey Interscholastic Conference held their third annual Sportsmanship Awards Luncheon at the Chart House in Weehawken on May 27. One male and one female were selected from all 36 conference schools and were awarded plaques to celebrate their distinction for the honorable award. Nominated by the coaches and the athletic department from the district, Seniors Faith Banca and Dylan Lewin were Becton’s 2014-2015 school year recipients.

Faith was recognized for her softball accomplishments and achievements, while Lewin was recognized for his football and wrestling career. Previous winners include Becton alumni John Pra and Meagan Majowicz.

“I was so honored and humbled when Ms. Giancaspro told me,” said Faith, reflecting on the day she was given the news. “I really wasn’t expecting it- it was such a nice surprise.”

Fellow award recipient Dylan Lewin also shared his gratitude towards the selection.

“I was so thankful and honored to receive such an award. My family was very proud of me as well. It just shows that hard work does pay off in the end. The luncheon was great, and it was nice to be amongst the other recipients.”

Both recipients noted at just how pleasant the luncheon was, especially with it being right on the water.

“The entire day was really wonderful for me. The food was really amazing, too. All in all, it’s a day that I’m always going to remember,” said Faith.
