Becton Regional High School recognized two outstanding members of its school community in December, honoring their dedication, leadership, and commitment to students. During a special announcement shared by Becton TV, Ms. Elisabeth “Lis” Mackanin, Science Teacher, and Ms. Melissa Mitchell, SAC Counselor, were named the 2025–2026 Teacher of the Year and Educational Service Professional of the Year, respectively.
Ms. Elisabeth “Lis” Mackanin was recognized for her wide-ranging impact in the classroom and beyond. Throughout her career at Becton, Ms. Mackanin has taught multiple major science disciplines, consistently bringing energy, creativity, and innovation into her instruction. In addition to her classroom work, she played a key role in developing the Bectobots robotics program, helping grow it from what was once described as a “little engine that could” into a nationally recognized robotics team. Her dedication and hands-on approach reflect her deep commitment to student learning and engagement.
Also honored was Ms. Melissa Mitchell, Becton’s SAC Counselor, who received the Educational Service Professional of the Year award. Ms. Mitchell was recognized for being a steady, compassionate presence within the school community. Known as a strong advocate for student wellness, she has consistently supported both students and staff, particularly during times of crisis. Her leadership, empathy, and commitment have made her a trusted resource for those seeking guidance and support.
Together, Ms. Mackanin and Ms. Mitchell exemplify the values that define Becton Regional High School. Their recognition highlights the importance of both academic excellence and emotional support in creating a successful and inclusive learning environment. Through dedication, compassion, and leadership, both educators continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students.
