As winter sports begin, athletes are preparing for their upcoming season. Meanwhile, Becton’s thespians are rehearsing for their sport: the annual school play.

This year, Director Mrs. Settembrino and Co-Director Mrs. Laura Heber have picked out a play titled A Tough Act to Follow by Pat Cook. “I picked this play because it’s overall a good storyline and has an amazing twist in act three. I enjoy the time period, and it being a comical farce won me over, ” said Mrs. Settembrino.

We’re looking for people who are capable of bringing the characters to life to create a sense of believability, which we think will make the performance that much better.

The storyline follows a one-time prestigious Broadway agent, Leo Mintz, who now represents the inane acts that have ruined his reputation. Leo’s problems begin when gangster Louie DeMarco coaxes Leo to represent his protégé, the lovely Christine. Christine is talentless, but Leo immediately falls in love with her. To make things more complicated, Leo then tells newspaper writer Nola Baines that there is a “war between the sexes,” between Marlene, Christine’s chaperone, and Maxie, a punch-drunk boxer.

With a total of 17 actors, Mrs. Settembrino is eager to work with her fellow cast. “The characters are interesting, and the best part about it is that there are not any lead characters; each one contributes to the plot in some way, ” she said.

This year’s performance will be held on Friday, February 27 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, February 28 at 3 p.m. in the Becton Performing Arts Center.
