Ranked at the top of Becton Regional High School’s Class of 2019 is Valedictorian Cindy Muco.

“By becoming valedictorian, I feel like I have made my high school experience worthy. I focused strongly on my academics, and it has paid off,” she said.

In addition to being ranked first, Cindy is vice president of her high school’s National Honor Society and a member of the Italian Honor Society. She also founded the school’s first PAW Club whose members invest in the welfare of animals.

The valedictorian’s Uncle Fezoni has always been supportive of her.

While a student at Becton, Cindy also contributed to the school’s newspaper, and at the same time, was an active member of the debate team, Math League, and tennis team.

“The clubs and teams I participated in kept me very busy, which helped me with my time management skills,” she commented.

However, the path to the top of her class did not always come easy. “My freshman year was difficult because of the very different transition from middle school.”

Cindy’s response to setbacks always revolved around persistence and determination. “Whenever I was discouraged about my grades, I continued pushing myself. If I gave up every time I got a failing grade, I would never have become valedictorian. Hard work and dedication pay off.”

The high honor student mentioned that her primary strengths are English and science and has successfully completed five advanced placement courses during her high school career.

Debate Advisor and History Teacher Mr. Carr, who had Cindy in his APUSH and AP Government and Politics classes, said, “Cindy was one of the few seniors to continue with debate throughout her time at Becton. As a student, she was tremendously clever and a pleasure to have taught.”

Another one of Cindy’s advanced placement teachers, Mrs. Scalera, described Cindy is a “unique student.” “She is intrinsically motivated to perform above and beyond. Academically, I have watched her evolve with her literary skills, which are now exceptional.”

Cindy Muco stated that her parents are her role models.

Naturally, Cindy attributes her parents to her success. “My parents are the reason that I achieved valedictorian. Their steady reminder of my future and their lessons guided me towards this rank. They are my constant inspiration to do better and be the best.”

Cindy will be attending Colorado State University in the fall, where she will be majoring in animal science. She hopes to one day become a veterinarian.
