Senior David Brizzolara receives the Act of Kindness Award at the December board of education meeting alongside his family, Dr. Sforza and Becton BOE President Mr. Robert Anderson.

The Becton Regional High School Board of Education along with Acting Superintendent/Principal Dr. Sforza presented David Brizzolara with the Act Kindness-Citizenship Award at December’s board of education meeting. The recognition was awarded to the good-hearted senior after thoughtfully and discreetly paying for a classmate’s Class of 2019 sweatshirt.

While in math class, David witnessed that one of his classmates was not able to pay for his/her senior apparel due to his/her wallet being stolen. Driven by empathy and a natural instinct, the upperclassman stepped up and decided to pay for the clothing himself. He explained that he immediately felt badly for his classmate because he was placed in a similar situation in the past.

Becton BOE President Mr. Robert Anderson rewards David with Becton’s Act of Kindness Award.

However, this incident is just one of David’s many forms of generosity and good will. Multiple times in the past, he has paid for other people’s food when they could not afford it.

Mrs. Ferris, a math teacher and the senior class advisor, believes the rest of the Class of 2019 should follow in the same footsteps. She hopes they learn from David’s action of kindness and use it as an eye-opening experience.

“I believe my students need to realize it is important that they help each other out,” she said. “Because they all go to school together, they should protect one another.”

Mrs. Ferris continued to explain that although she was very pleasantly surprised when finding out about David’s friendly action, she was not shocked due to the fact that she knows this future Becton graduate is a very kind-hearted and generous person. She is particularly amazed by the fact that anybody would go out of his/her way to help avoid anyone else from going through the same uncomfortable situation that he/she has experienced in the past.

“This is the type of person who David is, the type that would go out of his way to help anybody in need,” she explained.

As far as the future, David hopes to become an even better version of himself. “As my path continues, I hope my fellow classmates follow in the same footsteps and continue being kind to one another and helping the ones in need.”

“Don’t even think about it. Just do it!” is David’s advice to others when contemplating whether or not to go a little out of the way to perform a kind deed.
