A Career Exploration Internship Program Final Presentation and Ceremony was held in the Becton Media Center on June 7.

Ms. Annitti, the Career Exploration Coordinator, began the evening by thanking everyone involved in the program for his or her continuous support, especially the business partners who participated in the program and mentored the Becton students.

She also introduced the 15 interns and explained that they would be sharing their internship experiences through blogs that they constructed. Their blogs were each displayed for the public to view.

Last but certainly not least, Ms. Annitti spoke about the interns themselves and how proud she was of their hard work and accomplishments. “Their confidence has grown, their workplace skills have developed, and their overall knowledge of their career fields has increased tremendously,” she said. She then went on to add that she is so happy that they have had such wonderful experiences that they will be able to take with them for the rest of their lives.

When the interns spoke, they noted the career that each of them would be interested in pursuing and how this experience has helped shape who they have become today. They then described some of their main responsibilities and mentioned the people they worked with, explained some of the beneficial skills that they developed throughout the internship, and described their overall impression of their workplace experience.

“My most memorable part of the ceremony was hearing all of the compliments and remarks from the audience, especially our business partners and mentors. They had such wonderful things to say about our students and their presentations. Everyone was very impressed,” said Ms. Annitti. “There were numerous comments about how well-spoken and mature the Becton students sounded, and that made me extremely proud.”

Junior Rebecca Collette, who will be participating in the Internship Program next year, attended the ceremony and noted that she liked seeing the relationship that has developed between the interns and their mentors. “Zoe Rose felt really welcome and made connections that she considers her family now,” she said.

Junior Austin Kim, who will continue next year to work alongside the District Technology Coordinator, Mr. Gbaguidi, said, “Because of this program, I am gaining a new perspective on a computer science career path that I would like to someday pursue.”

Currently, next year’s internship program has 16 students who are ready to be placed in various career fields.
