Becton senior walks the runway at New York Fashion Week

This past September, Senior Meyra Ventura Liriano was given the rare opportunity to walk the runway in three fashion shows at New York Fashion Week.

Meyra’s aunt, who is a fashion designer, is the one who contacted the Becton senior when a model backed out before a main event. “I found out I had to model just a couple of hours before the show. I didn’t know what the runway was like and had no time to practice,” Meyra said. Although her nerves were at an all-time high, she ended up pulling through for all three shows. “Modeling in New York Fashion Week was an unforgettable experience,” she added.

The NYFW designers she modeled for were Douglas Tapia, Lucia Rodriguez and Mekis Diaz. In fact, she had the honor of walking the runway alongside models such as Miss Earth 2013, Miss Universe 2014 and Miss Universe 2016.

Meyra has always dreamed of getting involved in the modeling industry since she was a little girl. She grew up watching America’s Next Top Model and Miss Universe on television with her mother who is a former model herself.

Meyra became interested in modeling during middle school when she attended training sessions at the Barbizon Modeling Studio and Agency. During her freshman year, she modeled in her first fashion show, which was sponsored by a local boutique.

“I’d like to be a Victoria’s Secret model one day,” the senior said. Aside from modeling for Victoria’s Secret, she sees herself working for high end fashion companies like Balmain, Dolce & Gabbana, Alexander Wang and Fenty x Puma.
