Spring Sports Senior Nights

This year’s Baseball Seniors and their families!

Spring sports are proud to congratulate their amazing seniors for all their hard work and dedication as their high school athletic careers come to end. Boys’ Tennis as well as Lady Wildcat Softball and Baseball all recently had a special night dedicated to seniors to celebrate all their athletic achievements as well as the last few games and matches as a Becton Wildcat!

Becton Baseball took on Leonia on May 13 2023 as their senior night game! Although the boys did not have the home field advantage, they took home a 7-2 win! Prior to the game beginning, the seniors were escorted down the baseline by their parents and other family members. Pictures were taken, and events were organized for the event courtesy of the Diamond Club run by Mrs. Penna. The seniors honored during the game were Ruben Alvarez, Jayden Alvizio, Elijah Bell, Jake Knauer, Joey Longo, and Billy Oehlman. Only one senior, Ruben Alvarez, will be continuing his baseball career in college by attending Alvernia University. Head Coach Mr. Michael Lind added that Alvarez will actually be playing alongside his brother next season.

Our 2023 Senior Lady Wildcats!

Lind insightfully looks back on the senior night explaining, “Overall, Senior Night is meant to honor those who formed and molded the program it is today; honoring those who devoted their time during the warm months to build a culture that’s sustainable for years to come. This year’s group molded this program into something desirable. Every single senior that is honored played a vital role in the formation and production of the program…that is what we honor on Senior Day.”

Becton Softball Senior night is put together by their Parents Association and members of the team. Teammates and parents make posters and bring balloons and gifts for the seniors. The Lady Wildcats faced the Wood-ridge blue devils right here in East Rutherford at McKenzie Field and secured the win for the special night beating the blue devils 6-1! The Seniors being celebrated during the game were Miranda Hanna and Nathalie Roa. Softball coach Joseph Coffaro noted, “The senior games are usually a fun time for all participants to share the experience with our seniors as well as our student body and parents!”

Last but not least, Boys’ Tennis honored their seniors with players and students making posters for the seniors, and they are put up on the fence outside the tennis courts. When the team arrives, the head coach Mr. Damian Daniello gives a speech about each senior and allows time for each senior to speak to the team afterwards if they choose to do so. After the seniors speak, Daniello opens the floor up to any other player that may want to say a few words about each senior. Then the matches begin. The boys played a home match at Mckenzie Field in East Rutherford versus North Bergen and won 5-0. Although the seniors on the team Michael VanClief (1st Singles) and Vincent Guminski (1st Doubles) are not deciding to play in college, their accomplishments are nothing short of outstanding!

This year’s Tennis Team Seniors on their Senior Night!

To finalize, Daniello writes “I think senior night matches are a little different than the average tennis match because it is usually the last home match for the seniors. So, usually the match means a little more to the team to a degree.”

Congratulations to all 2023 Senior Wildcats on their accomplishments during their Spring Sport Seasons! Becton Regional wishes you the best of luck in all that you do!
