Becton volleyball team walks off court with pride

The girls show team spirit as they huddle before their match against Kinnelon.

Becton Girls’ Volleyball showed tremendous effort in their struggle against Kinnelon in the State Quarterfinals, but were ultimately defeated with scores of 25-12 and 25-19. Despite their disheartening loss, girls’ volleyball has left behind a legacy of accomplishments and a prosperous season that cannot be overshadowed by the outcome of their final States game.

For Becton, the season has ended on anything but a sour note. Hard work and dedication were evidently displayed in the team’s impressive 18-0 league record and their Bergen County League Title. The team managed to secure the fourth seed out of the top eight teams for all of Group 1 schools in New Jersey.

In the first and second rounds of States, the team beat Park Ridge with scores of 25-16 and 25-15 and won against Cinnamonson with scores of 25-15 and 25-10. Throughout both games, the team managed to keep a generous lead and advance to the Quarterfinals against Kinnelon.

Moreover, six Becton players this season were recognized as All-League players, including Seniors Danyelle Balaskovitz, Kayla Clarke, and Taylor Gruntfest and Juniors Samantha Frola, Stephanie Mitarotonda, and Samantha Stallone.

“Girls’ volleyball is a very team-oriented game, so everyone on varsity has contributed in some way to our overall success,” said Coach Settembrino. “I think this year’s team has more balance than any other volleyball team I have ever coached.”
