Senior Gianna Penna has been chosen as Becton’s January Student of the Month. Gianna expressed that she is “beyond grateful that [she] earned this honor in recognition of [her] hard work.”

The Senior finds the most challenging part of high school to be managing her time and schoolwork. She has found it difficult to prepare for the pressures of college but looks forward to the next four years paving her future. Penna also views herself as a person who pushes herself to work harder “by striving for several goals I set for myself, such as achieving a certain grade”.

Moreover, she found her favorite subject to be English because “It helped me advance my skills…and realize that there is a deeper meaning behind all books.” Also, Gianna especially loved the way in which Mrs. Scalera taught The Great Gatsby.

Outside of the classroom, Gianna participated in Becton athletics as a Varsity Soccer player for three years and a Varsity Softball player for four years and current captain. As a softball player, Gianna said she loved “being able to be part of a team, and pushing myself to be the best player I can be, and trying to be better after each game”. In soccer, she enjoyed seeing others show their passion for the sport, especially in an intense game, where she can feel other people’s high energy.

She is a part of Key Club, National Honor Society, Horticulture Club, PAW Club, Wellness Club, and Italian Honor Society. She has in the past participated in Peer Leadership, Girls Helping Girls, and Environmental Club.

Gianna has applied to five schools including University of Delaware, Sacred Heart University, Pennsylvania State University, University of Miami, and Seton Hall University. She would like to major in Exercise Science and hopefully pursue a career as a Physical Therapist.
