Becton student Luke Maffia earns perfect ELA PARCC score
November 8, 2016
The Becton Regional High School Administration is very happy to announce that Junior Luke Maffia earned a perfect score of 850 points on the English Language Arts Literacy section of the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) during the 2015-2016 school year.
Luke prepared for the test by eating a well-balanced breakfast. He also added that he did not stress about it and got a good night’s sleep.
While staying focused on the test, Luke kept his composure. “I was chill,” he stated.
The easiest section of the test for the Becton sophomore was the multiple choice. “I had different options, and the answer was right in front of my eyes,” he said. The hardest part for him was the essay. “It was difficult because you had to come up with thoughts on the spot and tie everything together.”
For future test takers, Luke does not want them to worry too much about the PARCC. He noted to simply “listen to your first instinct because it will be right most of the time.”
Luke’s tenth grade English Honors teacher, Mrs. Scalera, stated that she is “ecstatic” and “so so proud.” She is very happy that he took the test seriously. “I am glad I was able to prepare him,” she said.
English Department Chairperson Mrs. Cannarozzi feels proud and delighted that one of Becton’s students earned a perfect score. “Great job!” she exclaimed.
Luke will be recognized for his perfect English Language Arts Literacy score at the November 16 Becton Board of Education Meeting. “It’s cool. I feel honored to be recognized in front of all those people,” he said.
Regarding his future, Luke feels like this score has opened up more opportunities for better colleges.
