Becton Robotics Club referees middle school tournaments

Savannah Jones, Editor

After just a year since the club’s inception, the Becton Robotics Club has recently been involved in refereeing middle school tournaments. At these tournaments, Becton students are responsible for checking each team’s robot to make sure it meets all of the requirements, mostly involving size, before the competitions begin.

Upon commencement, each team then uses their robots to pick up and move 16 balls from one stand to another, and furthermore, the team can gain extra points by shooting the balls into goals.

The job of the club is to observe each team’s execution of the task and then judge them based on the time it took to complete the task and accumulate points. They also get to present the trophy to whichever middle school team places first.

While the Becton Robotics Club has not competed in any tournaments just yet, Supervisor Mrs. Mackanin has mentioned that this may change next year due to the club’s sudden success.
