April Artist of the Month is Luis Pacheco Rodriguez!
Being recognized as Becton’s Artist of the Month was a great honor for Pacheco Rodriguez. When the announcement for April’s Artist of the Month echoed through the school hallways, he was genuinely surprised to hear his name. “I was in class when they made the announcement. I heard people around me congratulating me, so I asked my friend what they said, and she told me I was being named Artist of the Month,” he shares.
The recognition came as a shock. “I thought there was a better artist than me,” Pacheco Rodriguez adds humbly.
Pacheco Rodriguez’s journey in digital art began his freshman year when he had to choose between traditional art and digital art. Not feeling confident in hand drawing, he decided to explore the digital option instead. The class quickly became his favorite. He appreciated learning tools like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator under the guidance of Mrs. Lennon, whom Luis considers an outstanding teacher.

During his sophomore year, Luis was eager to continue learning with the same teacher, choosing a different class that suited his interests beyond traditional art. “I learned even more and even found a small passion for photography. I explored how to use a real camera and take quality photos.”
Pacheco Rodriguez’s digital photography teacher, Mrs. Lennon, describes Luis as a talented student with a strong creative vision. He was chosen as Artist of the Month for his attention to detail and his ability to capture unique and powerful images. Mrs. Lennon attests, “When choosing the Artist of the Month, we look for someone who has a unique creative vision and puts in the effort to create beautiful works of art. Luis has a great eye for good shots and always edits and presents his photographs with care and skill.”
Though Pacheco Rodriguez does not consider himself a traditional artist, his unique and thoughtful digital work has stood out. One of his most attractive pieces is a photo of a 3DS surrounded by a glowing purple ring, which was created using a photography technique known as light painting. “I really love that photo,” he shares. “When I took that image, I didn’t think or expect it to turn out so well because the image wasn’t edited in photoshop,” he confesses.

Alongside the 3DS image, Pacheco Rodriguez is proud of two more photos– one is a creative “multiplicity” photo showing clones of himself in the school hallway and the other is a thoughtful shot of his dog looking out at the horizon. Each image showcases their eye for storytelling through photography.
The Artist of the Month recognition marked an important moment in Pacheco Rodriguez’s artistic journey. While art may not be part of his future career plans, he sees himself continuing it as a hobby. His deeper passion lies in computers, a field he hopes to explore further.
Congratulations Luis Pacheco Rodriguez!
