Each month, Becton Regional High School recognizes a student who demonstrates excellence in both academics and extracurricular involvement. November’s Student of the Month, Noella Turla, is a perfect example of a student who excels in every aspect of high school life. Her hard work, leadership, and dedication to helping others have earned her this prestigious recognition.
Turla has always been a dedicated student. This year, she is balancing an impressive academic load, taking four Advanced Placement (AP) classes: Ap Calculus, AP Literature and Composition, AP Physics, and AP US Government and Politics. Managing such a rigorous schedule requires exceptional time management, a skill that Noella has mastered over the years. She explains that every Sunday, she takes time to plan and organize her tasks, ensuring that she stays on top of her responsibilities both in school and outside of it. “By being aware of everything, I can better manage my workload by dividing it up or completing it early,” she says. Noella’s proactive approach to managing her time has been key to her success.
Noella is also highly involved in leadership roles at Becton. She serves as the Treasurer of the National Honor Society, the Representative for the National English Honor Society, and the President of Peer Leadership. In addition, she participates in multiple other organizations, including Rho Kappa, Mu Alpha Theta, the Multicultural Club, the Environmental Club, Key Club, and the Debate Team. Despite the demands of these positions, Noella remains committed to excelling in everything she does. She believes that giving back to her community and being a role model for her peers is an important responsibility.
Outside of school, Noella’s volunteer work further highlights her commitment to helping others. She regularly volunteers at Holy Name Hospital, the East Rutherford Library, and the Never Alone Again Resource Center. Her dedication to service is evident in her active involvement in these community organizations.
Despite her busy schedule, Noella knows the importance of balance. She makes time for activities that bring her joy, like reading and fishing with her father. “Fishing is an escape in nature that I find comfort in,” Noella shares. Her ability to balance schoolwork with personal time speaks to her ability to maintain a healthy and well-rounded lifestyle.
Noella’s future goals reflect her dedication to helping others. She plans to pursue a degree in biology after graduation, with the intention of attending medical school. She aspires to become a pediatrician, cardiologist, or general surgeon—fields in which she can continue to make a positive impact on others’ lives.
Noella’s peers admire her for her work ethic and determination. Karolina, a fellow student, describes Noella as “the most dedicated student” she knows. “Noella always finds time to study, even during lunch or free periods,” Karolina explains. “She makes sure to stay on top of her schoolwork, and this allows her to enjoy her free time without stress.”
Karolina also praises Noella for her growth as a person. “I’ve watched Noella become more confident and open with others as the years have gone by,” she says. “She has become someone who not only excels academically but also knows how to enjoy life with her friends and family.” Karolina expresses her support for Noella’s future endeavors, saying, “Noella deserves all the success in the world, and I know she will achieve great things.”
Noella’s dedication has not gone unnoticed by her teachers. Mr. Carr describes her work ethic as “impressive.” He points out that in four years, Noella has never missed a deadline or submitted late work. “Her assignments are always thorough and well done,” he adds. Mr. Carr also believes that Noella has developed excellent time-management skills, saying, “She seems to balance her free and school time well, which is a key factor in her success.”
Mr. Carr further praises Noella for her growth as both a student and a person. “Noella will walk into whatever college she chooses and write her own ticket,” he says. He also commends Noella’s positive attitude, noting, “She is courteous, kind, and hardworking, and she works well with everyone.”
As Noella prepares for her future, she remains focused on her goals. “I want to become a doctor so that I can help others,” she says. With her strong academic performance, leadership roles, and volunteer work, Noella is well on her way to achieving her dream of a career in medicine.
Her family, who has supported her every step of the way, plays a central role in Noella’s success. “My parents and grandmothers are my role models,” Noella says. “They’ve taught me the importance of hard work, perseverance, and kindness.” Their encouragement continues to motivate her as she works towards her future.
Noella’s journey has been marked by both academic achievement and personal growth. She is a true reflection of what it means to be a well-rounded student—dedicated to her studies, involved in her community, and committed to maintaining a healthy balance between school and personal life. As she looks ahead to her future, Noella is an inspiration to her peers and a proud representative of Becton Regional High School.
