Becton has had the honor to host the South Bergen Classic since the end of 2016-17 and beginning of 2017-18 basketball season.

The idea of the South Bergen Classic came from Coach Balaban, the Becton’s Boys Basketball Coach. Ms. Giancaspro, Athletic Director and Supervisor of Athletics & Extracurricular Activities & Physical Education, explained, “Coach Balaban came up with the idea of creating and hosting an annual showcase-style event at Becton. His goal was to create a one-day basketball showcase that would be held at Becton every season showcasing the best basketball talent across southern Bergen County.” Ever since then, Ms. Giancaspro and Coach Balaban have worked together to organize the event.

Ms. Giancaspro also added, “At the end of every season, Coach Balaban reaches out to other head coaches throughout southern Bergen County to invite their teams to compete in the showcase for the following season. Coach Balaban has expanded the showcase over the years and now invites teams from Passaic and Hudson counties as well.”

We congratulate every team that participated in the South Bergen Classic!

Samantha Joseph, Staff Writer
Samantha Joseph is a new member of the Cat’s Eye View Staff! Entering her senior year at Becton Regional High School, she is excited to be able to write about upcoming events happening in the school community. Her desired focus for the CEV will be to write about the school’s sports teams, as Joseph is a varsity soccer, basketball, and softball player and is very passionate about her athletic abilities. To echo this, Joseph earned 2nd team all league last year for softball! Although Joseph has a love for all the sports she plays, her goal is to continue playing soccer in college as this sport is her favorite and she has been playing it since she was a young child. In the near future, Joseph plans to apply to Rutgers, New Brunswick where she will puruse a career in athletic training and possibly physical therapy. Whenever Joseph has time, she enjoys listening to music and spending time with friends. Most would describe her as hardworking and ambitious. In addition, with her senior year underway, Joseph is trying to be more in depth with school clubs and school activities. As of now, she is participating in the Paw Club and Girls Helping Girls. As a parting piece of advice, Joseph urges underclassmen who participate in sports at Becton to, "Respect your coaches-- they are there to guide you and care about you.. and because they will make you run if you don't!" We welcome Joseph to the CEV!
