As the new year comes rolling in, there is only one thing that Becton students are thinking about: Student of the Month, of course! Becton Regional High School is proud to announce Emma Aumack as January’s Student of the Month.
Aumack is a hardworking student who also works alongside previous Student of the Month, Skyla Tallakson, as the Senior Class Vice President. “Being student of the month is a rewarding experience, considering how much work has been put in,” says Aumack.
On top of taking various AP, Honors and elective classes, such as AP Lit. & Comp., AP Calc., AP Environmental Science, Spanish 4 Honors, Forensics, and two 1⁄2 year business courses, Aumack is also the captain for Becton’s new Girls’ Swim Team! Further, she is currently the Secretary of the National Honors Society and the Head of Fundraising for the Environmental Club, as well as a member of the Girls Helping Girls Club. To organize her busy schedule, she dedicates certain days of the week to studying for different subjects; for example, her Tuesday nights are for studying calculus.
Outside of academics, Aumack takes some much needed time for herself amidst her busy weekdays and weekends working. Aumack notes, “I do my best to manage time and multitask to allow for a few afternoons to myself.”
As her efforts show, Aumack believes that the key to becoming Student of the Month is to “prioritize school work over most things.” Despite being a dedicated member to her extracurriculars, her work and studies “always come first.”
Aumack is described as an “intelligent, driven, humble and kind individual.” As a reliable and willing helper, her teachers enjoy having her in class and greatly admire her ability to multitask. “She is a wonderful student who is mature, kind, inquisitive and always a hard worker,” English 10 Honors & 12 AP teacher, Mrs. Scalera, expresses. She notes that Aumack always “rises to the occasion” no matter the work given, and that any college would be incredibly lucky to have her.
After her graduation this year, Aumack aspires to become a physical therapist. Presently, she has been accepted into a couple accelerated doctoral programs, which she expects to begin later this year.
To Aumack, being chosen as Student of the Month means that Becton’s faculty has recognized her “hard work and dedication to both my own academics and Becton as a whole.”
From all of us here at Becton, we want to say congratulations, Emma!
