A Nickelodeon Universe theme park is currently being built in East Rutherford as part of the American Dream Meadowlands Mall, formerly known as Xanadu. The park is projected to be the largest indoor amusement park on the continent.

Guidance Counselor Ms. Calvanico said, “My daughter will be excited, but I’m not excited for the traffic.” While Spanish Teacher Mrs. Sanchez noted that she is thrilled because she grew up watching Nickelodeon.

The park will feature rides and attractions based on Nickelodeon shows such as SpongeBob SquarePants, Fairly Odd Parents and Jimmy Neutron. Around the park, there will be character appearances meeting and greeting visitors, and even though the park will be geared towards children, the additional feature of integrating material from old Nickelodeon shows into the park’s main attractions will allow adults and teenagers to enjoy the entertainment as well.

A LEGOLAND and DreamWorks area will also be branches of the park.

Nickelodeon has partnered with Triple Five Group of Companies to bring the indoor theme park to the American Dream Mall, which was expected to open in 2017. However, because of issues financing the $5 billion project, it is estimated open in 2018.

It will be 8.5 acres in size and will be open 365 days a year. Tickets for single rides will be sold as well as annual passes for frequenters.

History Teacher Mr. Bononno said, “It’s a great opportunity for people in the area looking for jobs. And it’s great for kids living in the area.”

“The park is closer to New York, so the local population alone will be able to benefit from it, but Six Flags will always be one of the best parks,” he noted.
