Upcoming Girls Helping Girls fundraisers focus on women, children
December 16, 2015
The Becton Girls Helping Girls Club is already underway with new fundraising ideas for the second half of the school year.
“For the month of January, if approved by the Board of Education, we will be collecting gently used handbags filled with toiletries for a local women’s and children’s shelter,” said Club Moderator Mrs. De Santis. Items such as shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, soap, hairbrushes, combs, toothpaste, toothbrushes, mouthwash, etc. are some suggestions on what to pack in the handbags.
All the handbags filled with toiletries will be donated to Oasis located on 59 Mill Street in Paterson, NJ. Oasis is a shelter dedicated to change the lives of women and children that are suffering from poverty. Their plan is to help educate, feed, clothe, and empower the women and children in need.
As for the month of February, the club will be selling heart shaped candy grams for Valentine’s Day. The candy grams will be one dollar apiece and all sales will be distributed on February 11. “All money raised will go to Lunches with Love for the same shelter, which means we will be able to provide a day’s worth of meals for the women and children. This costs $139,” said Mrs. De Santis. Candy grams will be on sale starting February 1.
The club moderator hopes to have some type of field trip planned for the month of March. In other news, Student Assistance Counselor Ms. Klamerus will be taking over Girls Helping Girls beginning the month of May while Mrs. De Santis is on maternity leave.
