Yolande Fall is proudly recognized as the May Artist of the Month for her dedication, creativity, and strong work ethic in art class. When she received the news, she was pleasantly surprised and excited. “I got an email before the announcement, so I was prepared, but I’m really happy about it,” she shares.
Drawing has been a part of Fall’s life from a very young age. “You could say I just like art,” she explains simply. “I have always been drawing and working on improving my understanding of the fundamentals. I started when I am really young—maybe even a baby!”
At Becton, Fall takes two art classes—Art 1 and Digital Art—where she learns to consciously apply color theory and sharpen her skills.
Her art teacher, Mrs. Savincki, praises Fall’s consistent effort and passion. “I look for students who come to class ready to work, are self-motivated, willing to experiment, and most importantly, who care about their work,” she explains. “From day one, Yolande demonstrates all of these qualities. She puts more into every piece than what’s required and often sketches ideas outside of class.”
Mrs. Savincki highlights Fall’s skill in using color and depth, “Her drawings are not flat; they show great perspective, overlapping, and shading. She especially enjoys creating her own characters, some of which appear in our projects.”
Fall actively participates in class discussions, sharing insights that inspire her classmates to think creatively. “She takes initiative to develop her ideas and applies the concepts taught in class. Her thoughtful participation encourages her peers to engage critically with the subject matter,” Mrs. Savincki says.
When asked about her future in art, Fall expresses a strong desire to keep creating and exploring new opportunities. “I have considered having a website to share prints and such,” she shares optimistically.
Mrs. Savincki encourages Fall to continue nurturing her talent both at Becton and beyond. “I hope Yolande keeps making art and continues to grow as an artist,” she says, confident in her bright future.
