Becton Regional High School proudly recognizes Brandon Martinez-Perez as the May Student of the Month, celebrating his outstanding dedication to academics, extracurricular involvement, and personal growth.
This recognition highlights students who demonstrate consistent effort, responsibility, and leadership. “It draws light to my accomplishments,” Martinez-Perez reflects proudly.
Throughout his years at Becton, Martinez-Perez has pushed himself academically by taking a rigorous course load. His classes have included AP World History, English 9, 10, and 11 Honors, AP U.S. History, Chemistry Honors, AP Physics, Spanish 4 Honors, AP Government, AP Statistics, AP Calculus, AP Chemistry, and AP English Literature.
Beyond the classroom, Martinez-Perez is a well-rounded student involved in many extracurricular activities. He participates in Chess Club, Environmental Club, Key Club, Cross Country, Winter Track, Debate Team, and the Volleyball Team. He is also a returning member of the National Honor Society and works a part-time job at Hamburguesa—all while making time for friends and family.
Peers and teachers alike admire Martinez-Perez for his exceptional time management and work ethic. Friend to Martinez-Perez, Senior Rodolfo Ortega, shares, “It’s nothing I’ve seen before. He may have a lot on his schedule, but he still manages his time well for school, free time, and extracurriculars.” Ortega also praises Martinez-Perez’s personal growth over the years, saying, “Since freshman year, he’s become more mature, responsible, and focused. He takes things seriously for the better and always prioritizes what matters most.”
Ortega highlights Martinez-Perez’s character beyond academics as well,“Brandon has always been a great friend to have around—he’s supportive, trustworthy, and kind. I admire his integrity, creativity, and honesty.”
Mr. Joseph Malyack, Becton math teacher, also commends Martinez-Perez’s character and commitment, stating, “Brandon is one of the hardest-working students I have had the pleasure of teaching. He manages numerous responsibilities and does it all with a smile and a positive attitude. Overall, he is one of the best students a teacher could hope to have in class.”
Mr. Bill Carr, Becton history teacher, echoes this praise, stating, “Brandon is a terrific person—hard-working, enthusiastic, and very dedicated to his work. He has developed strong time-management skills.” Mr. Carr also highlights Brandon’s accomplishments, including his acceptance into the National Honor Society, recognition as Student of the Month, and a memorable moment when he “won the gavel for ‘Bestest Judge’ during a particularly tricky round.” Looking ahead, Mr. Carr simply wishes him, “Full speed ahead.”
In addition to his diligence, Martinez-Perez is known for his warm personality and sharp sense of humor. Friend to Martinez-Perez, Senior Jakub Slezak, describes him as “lighthearted and sociable,” noting, “Even though he does so much, Brandon is never stressed. He’s outgoing, talkative, and still makes time to socialize. People say he works too much, but he always stays positive and prepared– I wish I could be more like that!”
After graduation, Martinez-Perez plans to attend Bergen Community College to study Biology. “My goal is to continue my education and pursue something I truly enjoy,” he says.
Ortega adds, “I wish nothing but the best for Brandon. He worked hard throughout high school to get where he is. He’s well known in the Becton community, and I know he will accomplish anything he puts his mind to.”
Reflecting on his years at Becton, Martinez-Perez shares heartfelt gratitude, “It’s been some of the best years of my life. Becton has given me the opportunity to try new things and meet new people.”
