East Rutherford, NJ – March 25, 2025 – Becton Regional High School proudly announces that Angela Calasso, a dynamic and deeply dedicated science educator, has been selected as a 2025 Teacher Who Rocks, an honor presented by WDHA and WMTR to outstanding educators across New Jersey who go above and beyond to uplift and inspire their students.
Each year, the Teachers Who Rock program recognizes just 12 teachers for their exceptional impact both inside and outside the classroom. Ms. Calasso’s selection follows her well-earned distinction as Becton Regional High School’s 2024 Teacher of the Year, reflecting her extraordinary dedication, creativity, and leadership.
Ms. Calasso is known for her hands-on, student-centered instruction that makes science engaging, relevant, and fun! She is currently teaching multiple science courses, including Advanced Placement (AP) science classes, and still finds the time to contribute across multiple areas of the school community. She is also the advisor for the Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior classes, as well as the Environmental Club, where she has spearheaded popular school-wide events like CANstruction—a creative service initiative that benefits local food pantries while promoting school spirit and collaboration.
What truly sets Ms. Calasso apart is the deep respect and admiration she earns from both students and colleagues:
- “Ms. Calasso achieves the rare feat of being both respected and loved by her students. She treats the star student with the same care and dedication as the student who is struggling. If my own child had Ms. Calasso for science, I’d count that as one less worry on my list.”
- “She’s reliable, selfless, and always the first to volunteer when extra help is needed. Angela is not only intelligent and fun—she’s a pleasure to work with.”
- “Angela is the epitome of what it means to be a teacher. She is highly involved in the school community and constantly volunteers her time for the benefit of our students.”
- “She brings fresh energy and positivity into everything she does. She’s not only an amazing educator—she’s a mentor, a leader, and a friend to all.”

Ms. Calasso is also committed to professional growth, regularly attending and even leading professional development sessions, while maintaining an active professional social media presence to highlight the vibrant learning happening in her classroom and around Becton.
“Angela Calasso is a shining example of what it means to be a teacher who rocks,” said Dr. Dario Sforza, Superintendent of Becton Regional High School. “Her students thrive because they know she genuinely cares. Her colleagues thrive because she’s collaborative, supportive, and generous with her time and expertise. She is a teacher, mentor, and leader who elevates everyone around her.”
Ms. Calasso will be featured live on-air on Friday, March 28th during the WDHA Morning Jolt and WMTR Morning Show, and formally honored at the Teachers Who Rock Awards Banquet on Wednesday, April 30th at a celebratory venue in northern New Jersey.
