Senior Katie Reiner, through an exciting week full of goals and impressive plays, stood out as the NJIC Soccer Player of the Week on Oct. 10, 2024!
Reiner was surprised to find out that she was the POTW explaining that she had no idea she was even a contender. She had an outstanding performance during the week, scoring several goals– 5 in 3 games! Reiner helped the team to a win in both the Midland Park and Lodi games, and earned her second career hat trick in a 8-1 win over Passaic Charter. Reiner attested,”It was a great week for the whole team.”
She believes she was chosen because she did her part for her team– making some goals and assisting as they won all of their games. “The wins are the most important.” Reiner also believes that while being recognized for certain achievements is appreciated, it is never the ultimate goal.
Girls’ Soccer Coach, Ms. Ashley Paladino, has been coaching Reiner for three years, where Ms. Paladino has seen Reiner grow into “a true asset to the team.” She goes on to say, “Katie has a great work ethic; she is committed to her team and the success of the team. She deserves this honor.”
Reiner’s advice would be to “play within your team’s system and good things will happen.” She emphasizes the importance of being a team player, “If you don’t play hard, you are letting your team down.”
Reiner earnestly reflects, “Our senior season has had ups and downs. I don’t think anyone on our team is happy with the losses but we are definitely having fun playing together.” After this season, Reiner is ready to close the chapter on her soccer career and embrace new adventures ahead – pursuing Basketball!
