One on one with Wrestling Captain Roy Forys
January 12, 2015
Becton Wrestling has had a strong start to the season with a winning 4-2 record. Senior Captain Roy Forys mentioned, “We began the season with some exciting wins in very important league matches. Our team has proven that we have what it takes to win. I definitely believe our team is capable of great things and I am very confident in our current standings.”
The team believes the toughest match will be against Hasbrouck Heights, but they expect to leave with a victory. “The Heights match [will be exciting], because not only are we town rivals, but there is a good chance the league title will come down to that match,” added the senior captain.
Currently, there are many individuals contributing to the wins, match after match, for the team. The biggest contribution comes from Roy, who has a career high school record of 114-22.
“Sometimes people have to do what is in the team’s best interest and bump up a weight to take on the tougher opponent, or maybe sit out so another person can fill their spot for the match. The team aspect is very important. Although at the end of the season, it’s okay to get selfish around Districts, because at that point it’s every man for himself, fighting for a spot on the podium in Atlantic City,” shared Roy.
Coach Settembrino encourages everyone to attend as many home matches as possible, being that there are only a few. The next few home varsity matches will take place on January 14, 21, and 28 at 7 p.m. The District Tournament at home on February 21 is expected to draw the biggest crowd of the season. Districts begin on that day and the State Tournament will start two weeks later.
