Becton community donations fill entire bus for Stuff the Bus charity drive
The fifth annual Stuff the Bus donation drive was a huge success, bringing in the second most donations since 2012, the year of Hurricane Sandy. While last year’s contributions only filled half of a school bus, the 2014 collection filled the entire bus from front to back.
Stuff the Bus is a charitable organization that accepts various donations to fill a 44-foot tractor trailer. These donations contain non-perishable food items, toiletries, new and used clothing, and all kinds of holiday stocking stuffers. All of these items are distributed to three different charities, including Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, Family Resource Associates, and Holiday Express of Ocean County.
History Teacher Mr. Kuhns, who first brought Stuff the Bus to Becton, stated that there is always room for improvement in upcoming years. He emphasized that a helpful addition to Becton’s busload would be frozen turkeys for the holiday season.
“Before I brought this to the school, I’ve been donating on my own for the past eight to 10 years,” said Mr. Kuhns, stressing the importance of getting involved in the community and donating to those less fortunate.
Donations are accepted year-round by the aforementioned charities, and each contribution helps families and children to survive and live more comfortably throughout each season.
