After much anticipation, the winners of the Student Council elections were recently announced. With Renee Kochinski as President, Joe Penna as Vice President, Claudia Horan as Secretary and Faith Banca as Treasurer, Becton now has a very determined panel of students who will represent this year’s Student Council.

When asked about her position, Renee Kochinski clarified that she ran for president because she has the drive and dedication needed to incorporate the student body’s needs into the curriculum. “I want to make this a successful school year,” explained Renee. “My main intention is to change not only the participation of the students regarding school activities, but also community events.”  In the future, Renee plans to bring new fundraisers and events to Becton, which she hopes will encourage students to engage and participate both in and out of school.

As the school’s vice president, Joe Penna plans to work hand in hand with the students and the administration to promote positive change in order to make it a year to remember for all grade levels. Joe aspires to make Becton more of a fun environment and stated that it is never too late to make a change.

Furthermore, Secretary Claudia Horan is involved in numerous activities around Becton from the cheerleading team to Math League. She stated, “I ran for secretary because I am very organized and good at keeping track of all the agendas and topics that we go over at meetings.” She looks forward to having a say in this year’s events. Claudia, like Joe, hopes to make this school year memorable for the entire student body.

Last but certainly not least, Treasurer Faith Banca explained that she is right for the position because she loves being a part of the school community. Community involvement is something the treasurer encourages and she illustrates this by attending school events where she can usually be found taking photos for the yearbook. Faith noted, “Being a part of the Student Council will allow me to share my ideas and input and help make Becton better.”  Much like her fellow members of the Student Council, Faith is an advocate for new activities and reminds students that although it is too late for a homecoming dance, students should keep their eyes open for a winter formal.
