Which apps do Becton community members APPreciate most?

Everyone knows that apps are tiny applications on electronic devices that do a variety of tasks. Businesses, companies, and schools rely on them, and even the faculty and students of Becton have incorporated apps into their everyday lives.

Senior Zarfshan Qadeer noted that her favorite apps are EventBrite, Youtube, and the SAT Question of the Day. “They are great for procrastination when you’re bored,” she explained. Zarfshan continued with explaining EventBrite, which is an application that keeps track of future events. She has many admission forms linked into EventBrite for College Open Houses, for instance. “It’s super handy because I don’t need to print out any papers. All I have to do is let [the college administration] scan the app,” she said. Since she is also taking her first SAT test in October she uses the SAT Question of the Day for extra help. The app is great for studying because it provides daily questions that could appear on the actual test.

Freshman Rebecca Collette enjoys using Instagram, Twitter, and Vine. She likes to view her friend’s pictures and keep up to date on news. Rebecca would definitely recommend the apps to everyone because she said that socializing with others is wonderful.

Furthermore, Sophomore Ronnie Marallano’s favorite apps are Oovoo, Skype, and Clash of Clans. He typically likes Oovoo and Skype to video chat with his group of friends after school. Ronnie finds them extremely convenient because when he needs homework help, he video chats his friends. Clash of Clans, which is a strategic video game, is a popular game that Ronnie and all his friends play. “Clash of Clans is really fun but it can be frustrating at times,” he stated. He admitted to spending a lot of time on apps because they can be addicting.

Media Center Specialist Ms. Vaccaro shared that she frequently uses Map Quest, Bank of America, and Pandora. In the next 10 years she says that she most likely will not be using the same apps. She said, “No, I think that the iPhone will have better apps by then.”

“I wouldn’t create an app, but it would be a great idea. If I did have to develop one though, it would be a calendar app because I never found a calendar app that I really liked,” said Ms. Vaccaro.

“When I went traveling I used apps like Viber to keep in contact with others for free. When you’re out of state or in a different country, Viber doesn’t charge you for the messages. It’s such a life saver,” she said.

History Teacher Mr. DiBona stated that Candy Crush, Google Maps, and Quiz Up are his preferred apps. He discovered the apps from many advertisements and from people such as his wife while Art teacher Mrs. Savincki relies on Facebook, Pinterest, and YouTube. Mrs. Savincki does not use these apps often due to being a mother and working. “My phone actually has a lot of games but they are for my children. They love to take my phone and play video games.”
