Since the current society has become so dependent on digital forms of communication, Becton Regional High School Principal Dr. Sforza has decided to embrace this digital outlook and implement technological innovations into the student body’s everyday learning. This transition into the digital realm can be referred to as “BecTech”.

Although at first glance introducing technology to students for school work may sound counter-productive, every aspect of the technological initiative will focus solely on bettering communication between adolescents and their educators while individualizing instruction and making the classroom learning experience more entertaining.

The first main digital shift this year would be the new Becton student email. The school email will be given to each student with the goal to make emailing faculty and staff more professional. It will also allow students to use the email address when for example, applying to college or filling out a job application versus having to use a personal one.

Moreover, along with the new email addresses is the new one-to-one Chromebook initiative. Chromebook laptops will be given to freshmen and sophomores in the near future, and the goal of the personal computers is to allow students and teachers to use Google Classroom, utilize Google Drive, perform research and complete assignments all while sitting in the Becton classroom. Furthermore, instructors will now be able to assign work, establish due dates, participate in the integrated forum and much more thanks to the Chromebook and Google Classroom initiative.

Also, by adding enough new laptops, everyone will now have the chance of getting a computer to take the PARCC assessment, which will reduce the test taking time to about one week compared to last year’s two weeks.

Dr. Sforza stated that teachers are excited to use this new blended learning platform and may even consider the use of smartphones in the classroom. The principal noted that the Becton administration likes to grow and adapt to the special needs of the Becton students.
