Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher Mrs. Marut is looking forward to teaching a new Culinary III Pro-Start Program at Becton.

The course was designed to introduce students to background knowledge regarding food safety, restaurant management, manufacturing foods, recipe development and working with more complex equipment. The new class also has its own textbook published by the National Restaurant Association entitled Foundations of Restaurant Management & Culinary Arts20160914_145332

“The Pro-Start Program will actually give students college credits through articulation agreements from the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation, which will benefit them if they ever want to pursue a career involving culinary,” said Mrs. Marut.

The family and consumer sciences instructor also noted that students who did exceptionally well in Culinary I can go right into the Culinary III Pro-Start Program. In addition, she explained how this year, any student taking Culinary II can also take Culinary III during the third period time slot of the school day.

“I hope more and more students are interested in the courses involving the Pro-Start Program, since it is definitely a great opportunity to experience,” she said.

A Culinary IV Pro-Start II Program will be added to the family and consumer science curriculum starting the 2017-2018 school year.
