English Teacher and Department Chairperson Mrs. Cannarozzi has earned the title as Becton’s 2014-2015 Teacher of the Year.

“Mrs. Cannarozzi and I have worked together for over thirty years, and I believe she was the perfect choice,” said Superintendent Mrs. Clarke.

Mrs. Clarke, Dr. Sforza, three BEA members including the previous Teacher of the Year, one Board of Education member and three Becton parents worked diligently towards making their final decision and selecting this year’s candidate.

“It was an honor to even have been nominated for the award,” said Mrs. Cannarozzi, who has also been nominated in the past for this honor. “However, I firmly believe that as long as you’re doing your job as a teacher, you’ll always be the Teacher of the Year,” she added.

During Mrs. Cannarozzi’s time here, she has helped with various school activities such as being the National Honor Society adviser, a Becton cheerleading coach, a track coach and a chaperone for the annual prom. Mrs. Cannarozzi has also been a department chairperson from 2002-2009 and regained the position in 2013.

Furthermore, the Teacher of the Year has also accomplished the task of having one hundred percent of her classes earn a proficient score on the High School Proficiency Assessment (HSPA) for two consecutive years.

Although she is commonly known as a freshman English teacher, Mrs. Cannarozzi enjoys teaching all grades. “I love helping the freshman transition into high school and seeing their faces when introducing Shakespeare for the first time,” she said.

Moving on, the English instructor’s mentor was former Becton English Teacher Ms. Carolyn Mezzadri. Mrs. Cannarozzi said that Ms. Mezzadri taught her everything she currently knows, and she takes these lessons she has learned over the years and applies them first-hand in the classroom.

“Mrs. Cannarozzi is a very dedicated teacher. She always puts her students first, never has to raise her voice and the kids want to work for her,” said Mrs. Clarke.
