Stephanie Giraldo: Talented junior discovers a love for art

Angela Cheung, Staff Writer

Junior Stephanie Giraldo is one of many Becton’s talented artists. At the age of nine, Stephanie discovered her passion for illustration. She noted, “I never really had many friends in elementary school, so I was kind of lonely. It was during that time period that I discovered my love for art.” As of today, she tries her best to find time to draw.

“I have always been attracted to art. I wanted to use my talent and abilities to draw something that looked real. It’s a goal that I practice doing everyday,” she said.

“A tip that I find extremely helpful is always to keep an eraser, blending stump and pencil with you. You never know when you decide you want to draw,” said the artist who loves to draw spontaneously.

Stephanie creates many types of illustrations such as painting, oil, watercolor, portraits, landscapes, still objects and shading. She admits that sketching portraits is her favorite.

Although the junior likes to draw, she is not enrolled in any art programs or classes in the school. “I would love to take art. It seems like so much fun from what I see in school, but unfortunately that class will not fit into my schedule,” she said. Instead of art classes, she practices at home and is a part of the Images Club.

In the future, Stephanie plans on studying biomedical engineering. “I need anatomy techniques for the projects that I will be doing. I want to build prosthetics, so that’s when my drawing skills need to come into play.”
