With the holiday season quickly approaching, the Becton Student Council is hosting a toy drive for the hospitalized children at St. Barnabas Hospital in Livingston, New Jersey to help lighten their spirits.

The idea of hosting a toy drive for hospitalized children came from Becton Junior Katelyn Leach who is also an active member of the Student Council. The Becton junior got the idea from her recently deceased grandmother who had always wanted to help the less fortunate children. Katelyn and her grandmother held a special relationship, so instead of asking for gifts this holiday season, she wanted to host this toy drive as a way of doing something in her memory.

Staff and students at Becton are encouraged to donate any toys by dropping them off in assigned bins throughout the school, including in designated classrooms. Staff and students also have the option of donating money to the hospitalized children’s families.

Adviser of the Becton Student Council, Mrs. Scalera, said that they are hoping for at least fifty toys to be donated. “It’s excellent to donate to children who have to spend their holidays in the hospital instead of at home,” said the adviser.

The Student Council is also looking into the possible incentive of a competition in which the Becton class that donates the most toys will win a prize.
