Although Becton’s girls’ basketball team was defeated in the state playoffs, they still ended with a strong season. The girls finished with a record of 14-9. The winning record helped with their playoff seeding, which put them in the ninth seed to verse the eighth seeded Emerson who finished with an 11-11 record.

Senior Danyelle Balaskovits said, “When we found out we were in the state tournament, practice became a little harder because we know what we want. We want a win and have to play with heart and intensity.”

Becton beat Emerson Boro 48-37 in the first round. A majority of the points scored by girls were from seniors Danyelle, with 14 points, and Tania Castro, with 13. Other contributors to the big win were juniors Samantha Stallone, Samantha Frola, and Freshman Justina Cabezas.

Senior Danielle Bartlett said, “Expectations going into the state tournament are playing with heart and hoping to win the state sectional.”

After beating Emerson Boro, the girls’ team prepared for Wood-Ridge by scouting how they play and using that in their practices. Unfortunately, Becton was not able to defeat the first seeded Wood-Ridge team, and ended their season after a 64-55 loss.
