The National Honor Society Induction Ceremony, which took place in the Becton Performing Arts Center,  warmly welcomed a total of 14 new members on November 13. The ceremony not only served as a formal induction into the prestigious organization, but also commended new inductees and returning members for their undying academic commitment and community involvement.

The evening was opened with heartfelt congratulatory speeches from Superintendent Mrs. Clarke, Principal Dr. Sforza, NHS Adviser Mrs. Colangelo, and Vice President of the Board of Education Mrs. Cavallo.

Moving on, NHS officers President Renee Kochinski, Vice President Prarthana Rajai, Treasurer Bonnie Marallano, and Senior Faith Banca, filling in for Secretary Miranda Febus, all made speeches reflecting upon the four pillars of character: leadership, scholarship, character, and service. Throughout each speech, candles were lit by Dr. Sforza and the officers to highlight these core values.

In Renee’s speech, she said, “We are all leaders, and it is not only exemplified in how sincerely we take our scholastic responsibilities, but, more importantly, how willing we are to go the extra mile in any situation.”

Members also participated in the NHS Pledge of Induction before they were awarded certificates, membership cards, and NHS pins to reward them for their academic excellence.

“I’m so honored to be part of the National Honor Society,” said Senior Giuseppe Penna. “As a returning member, it’s sad to realize this is my last ceremony.”

New inductees include Seniors Lauren Collette and Amanda Roche Arbolaez, as well as Juniors Michael Cabrera, Nadia Gani, Stephanie Giraldo, Nicole Isky, Makoto Kato, Skyla King, Rafal Kolodziej, Amanda Lavarco, Sarah Monks, Daniella Polmann, Jamie Scangarella, and Jessica Tripodi.

“It’s a privilege to be a part of such a prestigious group of students,” said inductee Nadia Gani. “I’m looking forward to all of the wonderful activities and community service opportunities it has to offer.”
